During the past weeks, the nTop team has been busy working on new software features — including enhanced import features for CAD assemblies and custom unit cells for lattice structures.
We were also amazed by the James Webb Space Telescope’s latest images, so we turned them into… "out-of-this-world” 3D textures.

New product updates
CAD assembly import
Working with CAD assemblies in nTop has become easier. The new version of the Import Part block preserves assembly component metadata and hierarchy.
In the properties tab, you will now find a list of components. Components is a new data type that includes information about the name, the template of the original part geometry, and the placement of each part in the assembly.
In other words, you can now be certain that your nTop designs will have the correct name and position when you export them back to CAD, enabling you to build more robust design automation workflows.
Custom unit cell
Are nTop’s 30+ built-in graph and TPMS lattice unit cells not exactly right for your application? You can now design your own custom unit cells quickly and easily.
The new Custom Unit Cell beta block creates a unit cell from a graph lattice that consists of beams, faces, or a combination of both. You can then use nTop’s latticing utilities to apply it to a 3D volume or surface.
The Custom Unit Cell is the first of many features built upon nTop’s new latticing technology. More exciting updates are yet to come!

Cold plates: Made better with AM
Cold plates transfer heat from power electronics and IGBTs to a cooling fluid. The performance of these components is critical to the overall effectiveness of the liquid-cooling system.
In this nTop Live, Yuki Okada shows you how to design in nTop a fully customizable cold plate optimized for Additive Manufacturing with the same form factor as traditionally manufactured alternatives.
The recently released images of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope dazzled us!
In this video, Alec Guay explains how he added depth to these amazing images to create some “out-of-this-world” texturing.
Quote of the month
nTop (formerly nTopology) was founded in 2015 with the belief that engineers’ ability to innovate shouldn’t be limited by their design software. Built on proprietary technologies that upend the constraints of traditional CAD software while integrating seamlessly into existing processes, nTop allows designers in every industry to create complex geometries, optimize instantaneously, and automate workflows to develop breakthrough 3D-printed parts in record time.
